Exhaust scrubbers are air pollution control devices used on a wide variety of industrial applications. Reactor, sterilizer, and storage tank venting are common examples of processes requiring exhaust scrubbers. Gaseous pollutants exhausted may include Chlorine (Cl2), Fluorine (F2), Ammonia (NH3), Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN), Hydrogen Fluoride (HF), Methyl Trichlorosilane (MTS), Ethylene Oxide (EtO), or Hydrogen Chloride (HCl).

Reactors and sterilizers are exhausted using vacuum pumps, and storage tanks are exhausted by virtue of infilling liquid displacing the vapor space volume in the tank. The exhaust vent gas is then routed to the scrubber. In some instances, the vent gas may be diluted with ambient air to lower the concentration of pollutant and provide evaporative cooling of any significant heat of reaction occurring within the scrubber.

AAT, Inc. designs with many different scrubber types, including packed columns, tray columns, spray towers, and ejector-venturis. This latter device is especially suited for low volume, high concentration gas streams, as is typically the case with the applications mentioned above. It not only scrubs using an extremely high liquid to gas ratio, but it also provides motive for exhausting the process vessel(s).
